An interesting experiment

It’s something that I’ve wanted to for a while but I was either in the middle of some important work or just forgot. Today I had the chance.

VMware allows you to switch from the normal windowed mode into a fullscreen mode thus makes the OS look like it’s running direct on your hardware to any passer by. When I had just the one small monitor I used to do it quite a bit, but since I’ve a nice 19″ monitor and semi-reasonable 17″ running in a dual configuration I don’t bother so much.

Still I’ve always wondered what happened when you switch to full screen in dual configuration. The result was interesting. I ran my normal desktop update script and it grabbed the following:

vmware_fullscreen_screenshot

This doesn’t really show you what actually happened so I took a picture with my digital camera:

vmware_fullscreen_camera

So there we have it folks, VMware and dual monitor = problems.
