Setting up a Backup MX

A what…? In simple terms ‘Backup MX’ is the technical name for a backup e-mail server. In situations where the main e-mail server is not able to recieve e-mails then the backup mail server will take over. When the main e-mail server is able to recieve e-mails again the backup mail server will forward the mails that it stored while offline. The user then collects their mail from the main e-mail server and no e-mails are lost.

People that run their web sites on a cPanel server will generally not have a backup e-mail server, and that includes me. Once the e-mail server is offline people can not send me e-mails. What you need (and I needed) is a backup e-mail server, a Backup MX server.
